Help Our Garden Grow
Jefferson Avenue Community Garden thrives because of the generosity of gardeners, neighbors, volunteers, community partners, and supporters who believe in the value of shared green spaces. Every donation, large or small, helps us maintain the garden, improve its infrastructure, expand educational opportunities, and ensure that this special place continues to serve the Union Hill community for generations to come.
When you give to JACG, you're investing in more than a garden. You're helping create opportunities for neighbors to grow fresh food, learn sustainable gardening practices, protect pollinators and wildlife, and build meaningful connections through shared stewardship of the land.
Your Impact

Recent Community Investments
The circular storage shed is one of JACG's most recognizable landmarks and a reminder of what a community can accomplish when people come together. Constructed by volunteers in 2005, the project was made possible through donated labor, building materials, and hundreds of recycled #10 cans generously provided by Ukrop's. Today, the shed serves as an essential storage space for the tools, equipment, and supplies that support gardeners and volunteers. When the shed's roof needed replacement in 2026, supporters once again stepped forward, contributing both small and large donations to fund the project in less than two months. The restored shed continues to serve gardeners every day and stands as a lasting example of how community generosity helps preserve and strengthen the garden for future generations.
The garden's handcrafted gabion benches and community picnic tables reflect the generosity and collaboration that define JACG. Volunteers donated their time to build and install the benches using materials provided by local woodworkers and stones carefully collected from the garden's soil, while the picnic tables were generously donated by the Richmond ToolBank and refinished by volunteers using donated supplies. Today, these gathering spaces welcome neighbors who stop to enjoy ice cream from Spotty Dog, share pizza from Pizza Bones, observe pollinators and wildlife, or simply spend time together in the garden. Ongoing donations help provide the supplies needed to clean, prepare, and stain the benches and tables each year, ensuring they remain beautiful and welcoming for the entire community.
